The Obama Deception..Nieuwste docu van Alex Jones..1,5 uur..The Obama Deception is not about Left or Right: it's about a One World Government. The international banks plan to loot the people of the United States and turn them into slaves on a Global Plantation.

Got Gold? "Proof" The Gold and Silver Scam by the US Banksters is min.. The US caught again in possibly the biggest PONZI scheme of the decade! This is bigger than the Madoff scandal.

The Big Takeover.. The global economic crisis isn't about money - it's about power... The reality is that the worldwide economic meltdown and the bailout that followed were together a kind of revolution, a coup d'état..By early 2009, a whole series of new government operations had been invented to inject cash into the economy, most all of them completely secretive and with names you've never heard of... By making an already too-complex economy even more complex, Wall Street has used the crisis to effect a historic, revolutionary change in our political system — transforming a democracy into a two-tiered state, one with plugged-in financial bureaucrats above and clueless customers below…Kortom: Om met de Mogambo Guru te spreken.. We’re freaking doomed…zorg dat u onvervreemdbaar eigendom bezit.

Nassim Taleb “Never in the history of the world have we faced so much complexity combined with so much incompetence in understanding its properties.”

Bill would give president emergency control of Internet.. ..Censorship in progress… The new version would allow the president to "declare a cybersecurity emergency" relating to "non-governmental" computer networks and do what's necessary to respond to the threat. Other sections of the proposal include a federal certification program for "cybersecurity professionals," and a requirement that certain computer systems and networks in the private sector be managed by people who have been awarded that license…meer

The Secret That Will Destroy the World's Financial System.. This claim is being made by a consortium of the world's biggest and most powerful banks... The Federal Reserve has to identify the companies to whom it gave the $1.5 trillion dollars and it has to list the assets used as collateral for the so-called "loans." The Federal Reserve says that this might "unsettle shareholders." OH MY GOD NO, NOT THE SHAREHOLDERS, NOT OUR PRECIOOUSSS SHAREHOLDERS!.. Judge puts Fed's bailout revelations on hold.. It.[Fed.Reserve]. argued disclosure threatened "irreparable harm to these institutions and to the board's ability to effectively manage the current, and any future, financial crisis."

Scientists Confirm the Effectiveness of The Big Lie - People Will Go To Extraordinary Lengths to Create False Justifications for Government Misdeeds .. Science has now helped to explain why the big lie is effective..All a government has to do is tell a big enough lie, and many people will swallow it hook, line and sinker. Or the government can just do something big - like starting a war for no good reason (or giving trillions in bailouts to the wealthiest corporations instead of the "little people" who most need it?)

Did the ECB Save COMEX from Gold Default?-deel 1.. Mysteriously, on the very same day that gold was due to be delivered to COMEX long buyers, at almost the very same moment that Deutsche Bank was giving notice of its deliveries, the ECB happened to have “sold” 35.5 tons, or a total of 1,141,351 ounces of gold, on March 31, 2009. Convenient, isn’t it? Deutsche Bank had to deliver 850,000 ounces of physical gold on that day, and miraculously, the gold appeared out of nowhere…It may have saved a major clearing member of the COMEX futures exchange from defaulting on a huge derivatives position. We don’t know who the buyer(s) was, but we don’t leave our common sense at home. The ECB simply states that 35.5 tons were sold, and doesn’t name any names…It is quite important to determine whether or not Deutsche Bank was bailed out by the ECB because that will answer a lot of questions about allegations of naked short selling on the COMEX…(merci Henk)
Did the ECB Save Comex from Gold Default?-deel 2.. Yet, short contracts in excess of speculative limits, not covered 100% by physical metal of some kind, are clearly illegal trades.[11] Clearly, something must be done to cleanse these markets before they implode.

Gold sold for scrap outstrips new purchases..maar ook.. “We have seen people in Europe buying gold in quantities that are more typical of the Middle East and Asia. There has been a tremendous amount of activity in countries such as Germany and Switzerland, with people buying coins and 1kg bars, very often just to take home and hide.”

Is silver the new gold?...

ECB attacks G20 plan to boost IMF drawing rights to pump cash into global economy.. If used to create liquidity, the plan turns the Fund into a proto-central bank for the world, running an expansionary monetary policy over the heads of existing central banks.

Warning of food price hike crisis.. The Grocer magazine show food prices rose by more than 18% over the last year…As the UK imports about 40% of its food, the weak pound has driven up prices. Unpredictable world harvests and a spike in oil prices last year have also played a part.

Oil on the agenda as Chavez arrives in China.. Chavez said during Xi's visit that other deals would likely be struck, including ones for Chinese radar and training airplanes.

Central banks expected to buy any IMF gold offered.. Gold sales by the International Monetary Fund are unlikely to depress the metal's price because central banks would be likely buyers…In the first quarter, Russia's gold holdings rose by 29.8 tons, to 523.7 tons. Gold accounts for 4% of the country's total foreign reserves, up from 2.2% at the end of 2008, the data show…Ecuador's gold holdings more than doubled in the first quarter, reaching 54.7 tons from 26.3 tons at the end of 2008.. Venezuela's gold holdings rose to 363.9 tons from 356.4 tons in the same period, and to 36% of its total foreign reserves from 23%, the data showed.

IMF says EU's Eastern European members should join euro.. “Without euroisation, addressing the foreign debt currency overhang would require massive domestic retrenchment in some countries, against growing political resistance.” (einde Euro?)

The growing prospect of a U.S. default.. the U.S. government has extended its full faith and credit to an ever-growing swath of the private sector... (But) Can the United States pay the money back?.. Keep in mind, the United States defaulted on its debt in 1933 when Roosevelt took office and pulled the country off the gold standard, thus, shrugging off the claims of foreign investors who were assured the US would honor its obligations in gold. The dollar plummeted. Bernanke's muddled strategy has the nation walking down that same path once again

Strange Days.. Jim Kunstler..  What they're missing is real simple: peak oil means no more ability to service debt at all levels, personal, corporate, and government. End of story… We have no previous experience with this type of social unrest…the standard of living in America has got to come way down. We mortgaged our future and the future has now begun.

The rich prepare for the apocalypse.. There's something else going on. I call it: hoarding up for the apocalypse.. The apocalyptic rich have hoarded cash and assets - and they continue to accumulate as much as possible - and they've built retreats to allay a deep fear that, when the world starts to fall apart, they will be at the top of a mountain, in a secure compound with its own source of energy and potable water (and a decade's supply of cabernet), isolated from the screaming, rioting masses.. I believe they have become gravely pessimistic about what life on Earth in the next quarter-century will become, and that's what drives them.  .Interview met Marc Faber..Mr. Doom and Gloom. World Bank President and Bilderberg elitist Robert Zoellick openly admitted the plan to eliminate national sovereignty and impose a global government during a speech on the eve of the G20 summit…Brown has consistently called for global regulation of the financial system as a means towards global governance. In a speech at St Paul’s Cathedral in London yesterday he again called for a new “global society”.

Brown DOES do God as he calls for new world order in sermon at St Paul's.. But I also know that this crisis is global in source and global in scale. I believe that unsupervised globalisation of our financial markets did not only cross national boundaries - it crossed moral boundaries too.'

Most have opted to take half their cash without penalty and leave the rest until 2012 when it will be returned without interest.. RBS, Coutts’s parent, is now 70% owned by the taxpayer.

-Catastrophic Fall in 2009 Global Food Production.. The world is heading for a drop in agricultural production of 20 to 40 percent, depending on the severity and length of the current global droughts. Food producing nations are imposing food export restrictions. Food prices will soar, and, in poor countries with food deficits, millions will starve. ..

NO MORE WIND IN EXISTING HOME SAILS.. Mogambo Guru.. about 1-in-200 homes in America are in foreclosure.. and if people don't have the money to pay their mortgages, then that may explain why consumer credit rose at an annual rate of 6.4% in May…Mogambo sez: As the currency falls, gold, silver and oil rise. They always have when the economic situation got this bad, and they are now, too.

THE PRINCIPLE OF SUBSTITUTION.. TED BUTLER..Silver has the best story of virtually every metal when it comes to the principle of substitution…It’s not gold and platinum, or gold and palladium, it’s gold and silver. ..The pairing of gold and silver is ingrained in the minds of the majority of people…depletion of silver inventories compared to growing inventories of gold. Also there’s the growing importance of silver as a vital industrial commodity, versus gold’s non-utilitarian nature.

The Principle of Sound Money.. Thorsten Polleit.. To prevent governments from misusing their coercive power in monetary affairs, two "institutional arrangements" have been put into place…First, central banks have been made politically independent.. Second, central banks have been explicitly or implicitly assigned the objective of maintaining "price level stability.".. central banks allow credit supply growth to systematically outpace income growth, and so the economies' overall debt-to-GDP ratios are brought up over time. Such a development is economically unsustainable….Experience shows that it was mostly gold (and, to a lesser extent, silver) that became the internationally accepted means of exchange. In that sense, [sound] money must naturally emerge from a commodity.

The EU Constitution Arrives by Stealth.. The new EU "Un-Constitution" will centralize foreign policy making in Brussels -- along with military, police and executive control -- without any voter input. It will dissolve two dozen historic nations, and empower Brussels' dictocrats…And it is so corrupt that it has never even passed its own annual audits.

MARKET VALUE OF GOLD DOES NOT REFLECT THE COMING FED BAIL OUT.. Voila we are now in a Fed engineered stock market bull which defies normal economic wisdom…The strategy is therefore to get out of cash and to into anything tangible. Gold (and Gold Mining Corporations), Oil, Commodities, Art, Collectibles and yes, perhaps even a little real estate.

Iran demands Japan's oil payments in yen, not US dollars

Help us out, west asks Opec, with pound at 25-year high against dollar.. Goldman said that shortages of supply were behind the steady rise…Despite recent declines in North Sea output, Britain's status as an oil producer has been a contributory factor in the recent rapid rise in sterling against the dollar…Opec yesterday sought to calm increasingly frenzied global energy markets when it predicted world demand for oil would grow only modestly in 2008. It downplayed the need for extra production,

Official inflation is pegged at 4 500 percent, the world's highest, although independent financial institutions estimate that inflation is running closer to 9 000 percent…US offers food aid to Zimbabwe.. Zim to boost price blitz.. Manufacturers have said the government-imposed prices mean they are unable to cover their costs and stores are fast running out of supplies, although the black market is prospering as a result…Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) is planning a major conference during September.. ."We want to discuss how the economic crisis will be resolved,.. Zimbabwe's economy has taken a fierce battering in recent years due to mismanagement.. Zim government mulls inflation data black-out.. Zimbabwe may stop publishing inflation data for one year, an effort economists say is aimed at shielding the government from embarrassment.. Unofficial reports have put inflation for May at 4 500 percent, a sharp increase from the 3 720 percent reported by the government for April.

The mortgage fees that have soared by 600% in two years..UK.. The numbers to be assigned to Iraq and Afghanistan will be classified.

Reining In an Out-of-Control Executive.. Marjorie Cohn.. In the last six years, George W. Bush has sought to accumulate all governing powers in the same hands – his.. The Bush administration lied to Congress to get authority to invade Iraq .. Bush's legal eagles, particularly David Addington and John Yoo, concocted elaborate "legal" arguments to justify the torture of prisoners…Cowboy Republic: Six Ways the Bush Gang Has Defied the Law.. White House Manual for Silencing Critics.. After a myriad of stories about people being excluded from events where the President is speaking, now we know that the White House had a policy manual on just how to do so…“Preparing for Demonstrators,” the document makes clear that the intention is to deprive protesters of the right to be seen or heard by the President: “As always, work with the Secret Service and have them ask the local police department to designate a protest area where demonstrators can be placed, preferably not in view of the event site or motorcade route.”

Pace: US troops in Iraq could rise..

The Crumbles of a Subprime Pie Crust..Mogambo Guru.. breaking open the Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO) fiasco in the mortgage business that has already brought down a couple of Bear Stearns hedge funds.. "How big..totall CDO to be in the $450 trillion range.. Nine times bigger than.. total annual Gross Domestic Product.. of the entire freaking globe!!!.. "Millions of Indian coins are being smuggled into neighbouring Bangladesh and turned into razor blades." How much more valuable is the metal in the coin?.. This phenomenon of disappearing coins must be happening almost everywhere, too, as all currencies are being debased by their central banks.. Zimbabwe.. where prices are now..going up by an estimated 10 per cent every day.. we read that Russia are snatching up "over 460,000 square miles of Arctic territory - including the North Pole…Putin and company will have access to over 10 billion tons of oil and gas that, according to his scientists, could be extracted easily."

Blood From A Stone.. TED BUTLER.. the big 4 are short almost 255 million ounces=150 days global mine production.. No commodity comes close to this concentration or increase in concentration. That the NYMEX and CFTC can publicly overlook this obscene concentration is shameful and negligent… The recent sell-offs in gold and silver have nothing to do with real fundamentals like supply and demand, and everything to do with dealers’ activities on the COMEX…some unusual movements in COMEX silver warehouse inventories. There were approximately 8 million ounces withdrawn and 19 million ounces received, for a net addition of 11 million ounces.

Italease blow-up stokes derivatives fears.. the Italian bank Italease has sent tremors through Milan's banking fraternity and exposed the hidden dangers of exotic credit instruments. Humans use or abuse quarter of all energy from plants.. In parts of the world where human activity is most intense, such as Europe and southern Asia, more than half the energy processed by plants is appropriated by people…"The underlying issues are the recent extraordinary rise in the numbers of human beings - now at 6.5 billion - and the unsustainable manner in which we collectively behave." The global population is increasing at 80 million a year and is due to level off by mid-century at eight to 10 billion.

THE "ART" OF DEVALUING MONEY.. The Mogambo Guru.. The 'art of central banking' is the art of pretending to know what one does not know. Not only is it not a science; it is not even an art. At best, it is alchemy; at worst, it is a gigantic cheat.".. Therefore, under a gold standard, the government and the banks had to be smart and act smart. Now they don't. And obviously aren't… If you want to see the real beauty of "gold as money" and the wonderful economic bliss that comes from it, then it is inferred when Mr. Wright brings up "the phenomenon of falling nominal wages."

Autopsy Of Our Energy Crisis.. Matthew R. Simmons (dia’s in pdf)

When Poor Countries Get Rich ..Sovereign wealth funds control about $2.5 trillion in assets worldwide, compared with about $1.6 trillion in the hedge fund universe. And money continues to pour in. By some estimates, these funds could control $12 trillion in assets by 2015… Governments created many of them with surplus revenues from oil, gas and other natural resources.

GLOBAL EXODUS FROM THE US DOLLAR IN MOTION.. Gary Dorsch.. A key player in the “Plunge Protection Team” (PPT) is none other than Federal Reserve chief Ben “helicopter” Bernanke… On July 2nd, Paulson sent a discreet signal to Wall Street power-brokers to avoid dumping the home builders… The BoE is well aware of the inflationary consequences of double-digit money supply growth.. But BIS General Manager Malcolm Knight is now calling on the world’s top central bankers to slow down the printing presses, and allow borrowing rates to rise, to start draining the “Global Liquidity Glut,” in earnest… Russian finance chief Alexei Kudrin put the knife into the US dollar, by telling the IMF that Moscow could not consider the dollar as a reliable reserve currency because of its instability. “This currency has devalued by 40% against the Euro in recent years… Last year, Putin ordered payments for Russia’s Ural oil exports in rubles, abandoning the US dollar as a medium of payment. Iran’s Ahmadinejad has ordered payment for Iranian oil exports in Euros.

Can The U.S.A. Survive Even 5 More Years?.. Puru Saxena.. Brown’s math suggests that world oil exports will drop by 50 percent within the next five years.. With [oil] imports now at 80%, what would happen if they were slashed in half? Systematic collapse, probably.

Credit crunch will 'shred investment portfolios to ribbons'.. The BIS had warned days earlier that markets were febrile..The danger with such endogenous market processes is that they can, indeed must, eventually go into reverse if the fundamentals have been over-priced. Such cycles have been seen many times in the past," … What is the source of this liquidity?.. The deeper reason is the ultra-loose policy of the world's central banks over a decade… If you think we are too clever now to let a full-blown slump occur, read the BIS report… EXPERTS PREDICT MONEY CRISIS.. but truly colossal derivatives debt which now totals over $345 trillion—about nine times the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the entire world… Now the $345 trillion question is, “What happens if the underlying assets upon which all of this pyramiding debt is based decline in value?”.. potentially taking much of the world’s financial system along with it… particularly worrisome is that the derivatives debt pyramid may have already begun to collapse… Credit crash fears surround debt whirlpool.. Could the fallout from hundreds of thousands of dodgy home loans given to poor people in the US cause a global credit crash? That question is being openly discussed after the near collapse of two big hedge funds.. A credit crash could be looming if there is a turn in the credit cycle and interest rates rise, forcing more people into bankruptcy… The current rise in stock prices does not indicate a healthy economy. It simply proves that the market is awash in cheap credit resulting from the Fed's increases in the money supply… The Fed's Role in the Bear Stearns Meltdown.. Millions of people who were hoodwinked into buying homes with "interest-only", "no down" loans will now either lose their homes or be shackled to an asset of decreasing value for the next 30 years. Past the Point of No Return.. Even the old timers in the Congress had never seen anything like it… a tripartite hearing of three subcommittees on “Currency Manipulation and Its Effects on US Businesses and Workers.” .. The consensus of congressman at the hearing was that China was the problem – even though the non-Chinese piece of the overall US trade deficit slightly exceeded $600 billion in 2006, over two and a half times the size of the Chinese bilateral deficit with the US. .. The bottom line here is very clear: The US Congress just doesn’t do macro.

World Silver Survey forecasts double-digit silver prices will continue.. "Besides its own appeal, silver has also benefited from commodities in general being in vogue and, in particular, its traditional strong relationship with gold, which of course has also enjoyed a powerful investor-led rally.".. industrial demand for silver resulted in a fifth consecutive year of growth. A CLEAR PARALLEL.. TED BUTLER ..Over 120 million ounces of central bank gold were borrowed and sold on the market, causing the gold price to collapse to its low in 2001. Then the buy backs commenced, causing prices to soar. Please put this physical amount of gold into perspective - 120 million ounces of gold is more than 5 times the total amount of gold in all the world’s gold ETFs. ..Gold was close to $250 and silver near $4 a while back, thanks to a manipulation. Those that recognized that prices were artificially depressed and took action did much better than those who assumed the market was free and fair…The main difference between leasing/forward selling and the concentrated silver short position is that forward selling is being unwound. Already, two-thirds of the leasing/forward gold short selling position has been bought back, with a clear and obvious impact on price. The concentrated short position in COMEX silver is still near its historic peak.

Increased Central Bank Gold Sales No Reason for Concern.. centrals banks within the Central Bank Gold Agreement (CBGA) have frantically quickened the pace of gold sales…with nearly 89 tonnes sold in the last 7 weeks…with 16 tonnes from the Netherlands.. central bank gold sales are “causing a good deal of confusion” among analysts, but the market has absorbed the supply fairly well.

The End of National Currency...CFR..In a globalizing economy, monetary stability and access to sophisticated financial services are essential components of an attractive local investment climate… It is only since 1971, when President Richard Nixon formally untethered the dollar from gold, that monies flowing around the globe have ceased to be claims on anything real. All the world's currencies are now pure manifestations of sovereignty conjured by governments.. Monetary nationalism is simply incompatible with globalization … Since economic development outside the process of globalization is no longer possible (????), countries should abandon monetary nationalism… Of course, dollarizing countries must give up independent monetary policy as a tool of government macroeconomic management… As for the United States, it needs to perpetuate the sound money policies of former Federal Reserve Chairs Paul Volcker and Alan Greenspan and return to long-term fiscal discipline. (must read..en koopt allen goud en zilver!!!)

Council on Foreign Relations on U.S. Dollar: “An Absurdity… Supported Only by Faith”.. The CFR created this mess to begin with. Its fingerprints are on every policy, politician and corporation involved with the funneling of wealth up to the top of the pyramid… So, we’re going to have a few “absurd” fiat currencies and private gold banks that will be used to make international payments in the form of shares of actual gold bars? Did the CFR just transmit a veiled and obscure tipoff to the wealthy people who read their rag? Or is it something else…I don’t know what to make of it. That paragraph is such a non sequitur in the article that it practically slaps you right out of your chair as you read the thing… So… Why mention private gold banks that can facilitate international payments? It gets weirder. This article was published within days of the U.S. Government’s shut down of eGold, (website E-Gold)the oldest private electronic gold bank. On the same day that the indictments came out against eGold, Brinks, a U.S. firm that provides bullion vaulting services, dropped BullionVault as a client. BullionVault allows individuals to easily and efficiently move their fiat currencies into physical gold, but it does not allow payments to other parties. … Are factions of the Elite in open conflict?

Inflation Robs Us Of Purchasing Powers..The Mugambo Guru.. The Federal Reserve is lying to us and stealing the purchasing power of our money!.. the Dow has actually lost value over the past seven years.”.. “Measured against the truest benchmark, the price of gold, the record high for the Dow was set back in January of 2000 when its price equaled approximately 43 ounces of gold. Today it is only worth about 19 ounces.”.. consider that the record high for the Dow in 1929 of approximately 380 also equated to 19 ounces of gold. So despite all of the hoopla and a thirty-fold increase in stock prices, the Dow has actually gained no real value during the past eighty years.” Wow! Go gold!

Adios, World Bank!.. the financial institution [World Bank] is not only losing supporters. It’s also losing victims. In Latin America, countries are paying off their World Bank loans early, cutting off ties with the Bank, and creating their own financing instruments to replace the world’s oldest multilateral lending agency.. Later that month, in the wake of the Wolfowitz scandal, President Chavez declared that Venezuela was withdrawing its membership in the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Likewise, Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador have paid off their debts to the World Bank’s sister institution—the IMF—and others have expressed a desire to do the same…At the same time that the World Bank is suffering its most damaging scandal to date, plans for an alternative regional bank are advancing quickly. Earlier this year, Venezuela and Argentina launched the new “Banco del Sur” (Bank of the South), pledging more than $ 1 billion to get the institution up and running in the next few months.

The New Land Rush.. global warming and the shrinking Arctic icecaps are opening new sea lanes and making barren islands suddenly very valuable. In fact, the international community might experience a new race of exploration, conquest and acquisition for this “new world”—these newly available lands and sea routes. How Biofuels Could Starve the Poor..CFR.. The enormous volume of corn required by the ethanol industry is sending shock waves through the food system… Filling the 25-gallon tank of an SUV with pure ethanol requires over 450 pounds of corn -- which contains enough calories to feed one person for a year… Demand for petroleum continues to increase faster than supplies.. The higher oil prices go, the higher ethanol prices can go while remaining competitive -- and the more ethanol producers can pay for corn… The use of land to grow corn to feed the ethanol maw is reducing the acreage devoted to other crops… Rising feed prices are also hitting the livestock and poultry industries… higher feed costs have caused returns to fall sharply.. Corn has become the prime raw material even though biofuels could be made efficiently from a variety of other sources, such as grasses and wood chips, if the government funded the necessary research and development… The risk extends to a large part of the developing world: in 2005, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, most of the 82 low-income countries with food deficits were also net oil importers… The world's poorest people already spend 50 to 80 percent of their total household income on food.

In the case of Africa, essentially an entire continent can find itself exiled to the global shadow world, off the map and off the news….it is now taken for granted that if world leaders want to get together to discuss a new trade deal, they will need to build a modern-day fortress to protect themselves from public rage, complete with armoured tanks, tear gas, water cannons and attack dogs. Ecuador Throws Out World Bank Rep Over Oil Aid.. World Bank financing for oil companies is worth hundreds of millions of dollars a year..[but].. the World Bank’s biggest impact on oil comes from its role in pressuring countries to reform their oil sectors in ways that suit the interests of international oil companies… Ecuador expels World Bank representative.. The leftist president, in office since January, has charged that the global development lender suspended a 100-million-dollar loan for Ecuador in 2005 in retaliation for his reform of the country's oil sector… they punished a sovereign country for rewriting its own law," he said.."Ecuador is a sovereign country and we will not stand for extortion from this international bureaucracy," said Correa.

World Bank gives green light to controversial Bujagali Dam in Uganda.. approves $360 million financing package for dam on Victoria Nile despite concerns.. The Bank argues that Bujagali is necessary to meet the needs of energy-intensive industrial sectors, asserting that a reliable electricity supply is critical for economic growth and development… the project does not contain provisions to deliver energy to rural areas or to expand the electricity distribution system..rests on the assumption that powering industrial development in Uganda will trickle down to benefit the poor. Whether and when these purported benefits will materialize remains to be seen.

Four oil firms cede control to Venezuela's Chávez.. Four major oil companies Wednesday agreed to cede control of Venezuela's last remaining privately run oil projects to President Hugo Chávez's government

Gangs of America: The Rise of Corporate Power and the Disabling of Democracy..(boek..als pdf te downloaden..NB Centrale Banken zijn ook DNB is bv een NV).. Corporations are the dominant force in modern life, surpassing even church and state. The largest are richer than entire nations, and courts have given these entities more rights than people.

Hedge fund.. Wikipedia.. Hedge funds are limited only by the terms of the contracts governing the particular fund. ..As private, lightly regulated partnerships, hedge funds do not have to disclose their activities to third parties. This is in contrast to a fully regulated mutual fund (or unit trust) which will typically have to meet regulatory requirements for disclosure… The ECB (European Central Bank) has issued a warning on hedge fund risk for financial stability and systemic risk: "... the increasingly similar positioning of individual hedge funds within broad hedge fund investment strategies is another major risk for financial stability which warrants close monitoring despite the essential lack of any possible remedies.

Gilded Once More.. James Simons, a hedge fund manager, took home $1.7 billion, more than 38,000 times the average income. Two other hedge fund managers also made more than $1 billion, and the top 25 combined made $14 billion… That's why comparing the incomes of hedge fund managers with the cost of children's health care isn't an idle exercise: there's a real trade-off involved. But for the past three decades, such trade-offs have been consistently settled in favor of the haves and have-mores.

Fighting the Corporate Theft of Our Water.. All across the United States [and world], municipal water systems are being bought up by multinational corporations, turning one of our last remaining public commons and our most vital resource into a commodity… "Globally, corporations are promoting water privatization under the guise of efficiency, but the fact is that they are not paying the full cost[s]… "We came to see that the conflicts over water are really about fundamental questions..Who will make the decisions that affect our future, and who will be excluded?".. "And if citizens no longer control their most basic resource, their water, do they really control anything at all?"

WATERPRIVATIZATION IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION....the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and regional development banks like the Asian Development Bank use the debt claimed from South countries as leverage to push the privatization of water services… These international financial institutions exercise power over many countries, not only as lending institutions but perhaps even more so as gatekeepers to other credit as other financial South governments grown dependent on a harsh and vicious cycle of borrowing and debt servicing are particularly vulnerable to such hostage situations… The fight against privatization of water has become a life and death struggle for many communities in South countries.

IDB Governors approve $4.4 billion in debt relief for Bolivia, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua.. Under an agreement endorsed by governors of its 47 member countries, the IDB will forgive approximately $3.4 billion in principal payments and $1.0 billion of future interest payments.. “This decision represents a historic opportunity for a fresh start for Bolivia, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua,” (P.M…USA leent dagelijks 2 billion van de Wereld)

Mystery of the Missing Meters: Accounting for Iraq's Oil Revenue.. With billions of dollars to spend and extensive experience with oil infrastructure and Iraqi ports, Haliburton and Parsons seem unable to deal with the routine problem of broken meters at the Southern Iraq terminals… "I would say probably between 200,000 and 500,000 barrels a day is probably unaccounted for in Iraq,".. Today no government officials have been able to establish conclusively whether oil is being smuggled or not. Even the future of the oil metering remains unclear.

The True Cost of the Mega-Retailers.. in fact, we are paying a huge hidden cost for these retailers. That is the swindle… The playing field has also been tilted by government policy.. Estimates suggest between $8 billion and $12 billion a year in tax liability is escaped as a result of the Geoffrey loophole and similar corporate tax dodges… How do the chains eliminate rather than create jobs?

South Africa Embraces Corporate Welfare.. The South African government is channeling Africa’s largest-ever industrial subsidies into the Coega industrial zone complex and port.. the key attraction of Coega for foreign investors is super-cheap energy [Aluminum melting]… a fierce debate has erupted over the idea of providing discounted electricity to industrial users when citizens cannot get a dependable supply at any price… But critics say the Coega port and IDZ will likely exacerbate the apartheid economic legacy of division, marginalization and grandiose, unworkable public-investment schemes. Such ventures were traditionally grounded not in a logic of development, but instead reflected the power of special interest groups.

A Trial for Thousands Denied Trial.. Naomi Klein.. The Bush Administration’s plan was to put José Padilla on trial for allegedly being part of a network linked to international terrorists. But Padilla’s lawyers are arguing that he is not fit to stand trial because he has been driven insane by the government…He is the only victim of the post-9/11 legal netherworld to face an ordinary US trial [because he is a US citizen]... The techniques used to break Padilla have been standard operating procedure at Guantánamo Bay since the first prisoners arrived five years ago.

Attacks Spark Fears of Taliban Defeating NATO Afghan forces recapture district.. NATO-led forces are pushing forward with their biggest-ever offensive in southern to root out militants in the opium-producing heartland of Helmand province.
Increasing COMEX Inventories.. Theodore Butler.. One thing to remember; we are talking about the transfer of millions of ounces of silver, not billions, as could have been the case fifty years ago…It is my feeling that the increase in COMEX inventories may be related to this concentrated short position. The regulators are pressing the shorts to justify their obscenely large position by showing they own more real silver than they’ve shown in the past.

Ali Samsam Bakhtiari and peak oil .. I seriously believe that the peaking of the global production of crude oil --- commonly know as 'Peak Oil' --- has occurred in 2006.. Thus, most probably, the popular masses will be directly exposed to two main types of shock: 1. A Material Shock; 2. A Psychological Shock…Four Phases of Oil Decline.. Bakhtiari now sees the world entering a phase of irreversible decline in daily oil output, moving down from the current 82mb/d toward daily oil extraction of only 55 mb/d by the year 2020.

Fed in the Land of Excess.. The Mogambo Guru.. Money supplies all over the world are increasing - 10% per annum in the United States, 10% in Europe, 14% in Asia. The hedge funds, mutual funds, private equity funds, investment banks - the green stuff is everywhere…and everywhere it is chasing more green stuff. The world has gone green…When that faith goes…so goes the value of our currencies…and so goes much of our wealth…Someday, all that liquidity is going to turn a little smelly…like the Harare sewage.

DEATH OF BRETTON WOODS II .. What does the death of Bretton Woods II mean? Many things, all good for gold and bad for the USDollar. .. The dominant myth from 2002 to 2006 promoted the belief that the global financial system operated as a macro economy which moves together, is supplied together, is coordinated by central bank decisions, and enjoys the free brisk flow of capital. .. What colossal nonsense! ..We are in the Weimar Age of modern money. Good prefers light; evil embraces darkness. In full light, the gold rally would be afforded greater tailwind. Even in darkness, gold will thrive since confidence erodes in darkness. Darkness is the constant theme to both the current financial system which manages the USDollar, and to a lot more of the national drumbeats.

INFLATION & HUMAN NATURE .."the most important thing to remember," as Ludwig von Mises reminds us, "is that inflation is not an act of God, that inflation is not a catastrophe of the elements or a disease that comes like the plague. Inflation is a policy." Who's making policy today?.. Whatever the initial cause of rising prices – and Hackett Fischer cites population growth in all four of the Price Revolutions he identified between the 13th and 20th centuries

Chinese central banker urges diversifying into gold, oil, metals.. China should "appropriately" increase its gold reserves and buy strategic resources such as oil and metals in order to broaden the investment channels for its huge foreign-exchange reserves, said People's Bank of China Vice Governor Xiang Junbo.

Gold and silver bugs complain a lot, and rightly, but they're winning.. In 1999 silver was $5 an ounce. Now it's near $14…the rising prices of the precious metals and other leading tangibles, like oil and base metals, long have been indicating not just actual shortages but also MONETIZATION. That is, just as gold and silver have been REmonetizing themselves amid the worldwide debasement of fiat currencies, other tangible assets, particularly oil and the base metals, are being purchased increasingly as financial instruments too.

An Emergency Program of Monetary Reform for the United States ..A good investigator always asks, “Who benefits?” The most salient feature of our financial system is that the creation of new purchasing power through credit—loans, mortgages, credit cards, etc.—is controlled by private financial institutions principally for their profit. Because we are never taught about alternative economic structures, we take this system for granted.. The correct term for such a system is “monetary hell.”. The system was created by historical forces, but if we want to, we can identify these forces and change the system….The logic of publicly-controlled credit is obvious. If government has the authority to charter banks to issue credit through loans against a small reserve of deposits, it could just as easily issue credit itself against a reserve of tax receipts or even against the “real credit” of the nation’s GDP. Because government would not have to earn a profit on lending, it could offer credit at much lower rates of interest, only enough perhaps to cover administrative costs.

Russia to invest oil revenues in shares.. The reserve fund is projected to hold about $142bn and the future fund $24bn ..Mr Kudrin told the Financial Times the reserve fund would be invested in a conservative portfolio of government bonds – as the stabilisation fund is now. But the other fund could invest in higher risk assets, aimed at maximising returns…Russia has built gold and foreign exchange reserves of $356bn – the world’s third biggest – in addition to its petrodollars fund.

China to buy four nuclear reactors from the United States.. China will purchase four state-of-the-art nuclear reactors from the United States at an estimated cost of USD 8 billion…As it seeks to reduce its reliance on coal-fired, polluting plants,... Last week, China announced plans to build a strategic reserve of natural uranium. Ouyang said the nation's own uranium ore supply could meet the nation's demands by 2020.

Pentagon wants to end controversial spying program.. the Pentagon has been collecting information on peace activists and monitoring anti-war protests across the country…"Talon was another costly, controversial and poorly focused venture that did not make us any safer," Leahy said. "Without clear rules and close oversight, databases like this can easily be abused to violate the public's constitutional and privacy rights."

Fascist America, in 10 easy steps.. From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all.. Creating a terrifying threat.. most Americans do not realise that since September of last year - when Congress..passed the Military Commissions Act of 2006 - the president has the power to call any US citizen an "enemy combatant". He has the power to define what "enemy combatant" means…"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands ... is the definition of tyranny,"

Bees Vanish, and Scientists Race for Reasons.. countries in Europe, as well as Guatemala and parts of Brazil, are also struggling for answers…The researchers have found some fungi in the affected bees that are found in humans whose immune systems have been suppressed by the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or cancer. “That is extremely unusual,” Dr. Cox-Foster said.

Cloned Dogs To Be Mated In Fertility Test.. THE world's first cloned dog will be mated with the world's second dog clone, in an experiment to see whether they can reproduce normally.

'Superpill' could treat 2,000 genetic diseases.. The pill works by effectively forcing the body to ignore genetic mutations, and to produce normal proteins, rather than the mutated versions which lead to disease. Patients would have to take it throughout their lives…Scientists say that if the trials go well, it could be licensed as early as 2009.

You Are What You Grow …So how is it that today the people with the least amount of money to spend on food are the ones most likely to be overweight?.The reason the least healthful calories in the supermarket are the cheapest is that those are the ones the farm bill encourages farmers to grow.. And the subsidies are only part of the problem. The farm bill helps determine what sort of food your children will have for lunch in school tomorrow.

The Latest Fed Promise – Gold Just Doesn't Buy It.. "We're living on borrowed time," reckons one Colorado respondent to the new survey. "We spend ridiculous amounts of money on the war and now we have issues with the subprime housing market.".. Real interest rates paid on US Dollars, in short, look set to retreat further from the half-decade high hit six months ago. Falling returns on cash will only push fresh investment into gold – the asset that costs you to own it just as long as cash is worth holding.

ECB gold sales were updated again this morning.. In the last month, the gold market has seen 57.6 tonnes of sales…In the month since the increases in sales began, gold has increased in price by over $40 per ounce… There is no more bullish factor for this market in our opinion than to see how robust the physical demand is at present while it continues to gobble up the major increases in bank sales and trend higher.

ZIMBABWE: BEST PERFORMING STOCK MARKET IN 2007?.. Our Zimbabwe example, though extreme, demonstrates how changes in stock prices can be driven by monetary conditions, and not changes in GDP. New money gets spent or invested. In Zimbabwe's case, because there are no alternatives, it is stocks that are benefiting…This sort of thinking can be applied to the stock markets in the Western world too. Though western central banks have not been printing nearly as fast as their Zimbabwe counterpart, they do have a long history of increasing the money supply…as in Zimbabwe, Western stock markets have become one of the principal entry points for newly printed currency.

Norway's pension fund drops South African company DRD Gold over environment concerns.. Since the government imposed the ethical guidelines in 2004, 18 other companies remain excluded.

Doomsday for the Greenback.. The demolition of the dollar isn’t accidental. It’s part of a plan to shift wealth from one class to another and concentrate political power in the hands of a permanent ruling elite. There’s nothing particularly new about this and Bush and Greenspan have done nothing to conceal what they are doing…The ECB (European Central Bank), Japan and China are all cooperating in an effort to “gradually” deflate the dollar while minimizing its effects on the world economy…Iraq has proven that the US military can no longer enforce dollar-hegemony through force of arms. New alliances are forming that are reshaping the geopolitical landscape and signal the emergence of a multi-polar world.

RUSSIA POISED TO LEAD AN EVOLVING CARTEL OF GAS-EXPORTING COUNTRIES.. Convening in Doha, Qatar on April 9, the Gas-Exporting Countries’ Forum (GECF) has taken a first step toward creating an exporters’ cartel at the intergovernmental level. However, the Western gas-exporting countries -- Canada, Norway, and the Netherlands.. GECF decided unanimously to set up a High-Level Group that would develop a common methodology on the formation of gas export prices and conduct research on consumer markets.

Gül: Turkey won’t watch silently if Iraq takes no action.. concerning the presence of the PKK in northern Iraq.. Ankara says Kirkuk, which sits atop 6 percent of the world's known oil reserves, should have a special status preserving its multicultural structure.

Blair accused of fuelling terrorism and undermining war on poverty.. a think-tank, warned that the "war on terror" had made the world more dangerous…The charity said its workers worldwide had recorded a "disturbing trend towards anti-Britishism" fuelled by perceived double standards in UK foreign policy.

Buying the poppy crop could put paid to Afghan problem.. Current policies to defeat the Taliban by military means and cut the flow of heroin to Western countries..have manifestly failed… Reports from Brussels in the past few days suggest the possibility of legalising opium production in Afghanistan..[costs] only about $2.7bn of this is paid to producers and their agents in Afghan-istan. Split between the Nato countries, the cost of buying the poppy harvest would be negligible.

Another Enemy of the People?.. On 1 March 07, I was scheduled to fly on American Airlines to Newark.. I was denied a boarding pass because I was on the Terrorist Watch list…the Marine Corps to a very polite clerk for American Airlines…offered a frightening comment: "Have you been in any peace marches? We ban a lot of people from flying because of that." I explained that I had not so marched but had, in September, 2006, given a lecture at Princeton, televised and put on the Web, highly critical of George Bush for his many violations of the Constitution. "That'll do it," the man said.

Collapse of Honey Bees in U. S., Canada and 9 European Countries.. in Europe at least nine countries are now reporting massive disappearances of honey bees – similar to the Colony Collapse Disorder that has affected American beekeepers since the fall of 2006…[UK]..There were no dead bees to look at, so we could not examine anything. And they all had plenty of stores (of honey) left. And a phenomenon that we can’t understand is that they don’t appear to be robbed out by other bees…SO,  THE NORMAL OPPORTUNISTS ARE EVEN STAYING AWAY FROM THE EMPTY HIVES?..Yes. And we don’t know why…[USA]..Even Australian bees imported to California for the almond pollination disappeared.

Chemtrail Sunscreen Taught In US Schools.. "Figure 1- Jet engines running on richer fuel would add particles to the atmosphere to create a sunscreen"…scientists are finding levels of solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface decreasing by almost 3% a decade…Global dimming.. The effect varies by location, but worldwide it is of the order of a 4% reduction over the three decades from 1960–1990…BBC-Horizon

Quake Lifts Solomons Island Out of the Sea.. In an instant, the grinding of the Earth's tectonic plates in the 8.0 magnitude earthquake Monday forced the island of Ranongga up three metres (10 foot)… pushing the shoreline out to sea by up to 70 metres…Kennedy said the damage to the coral reefs could dry up the region's major source of overseas money.

Earthquakes In The Gold Market.. Mogambo Guru.. I disagree with the idea that only the rich can buy gold… the Fed is clearly signalling that lots of inflation is in our future, as it is the price we must pay to bail out the blinding, incandescent incompetence of the Federal Reserve under Alan Greenspan, who created the housing bubble, which was created to bail out the busted stock market bubble, and the bond market bubble, and the size-of-government bubble that he also created. Grrrr!

Unanswered Questions About the Silver ETF.. James Turk.. it is clear to me that SLV too is not an alternative to owning physical metal. There is too much uncertainty about its allocated (physical silver) and unallocated (silver IOUs) accounts… it appears that parts of SLV’s disclosure documents were purposefully crafted to mislead investors into thinking that SLV was backed by silver when in reality it is not. This conclusion may seem extreme, but I believe it to be reasonable based on the publicly available information that I have read I encourage everyone to read all of SLV’s documents filed with the SEC to see whether you agree with me.

Gold hits 5-wk. high on dollar slide, trade tensions.. "Many are expecting the dollar to come under some significant pressure in the near term with new rhetoric out of the U.S. government yesterday about another set of piracy and trade issues with China," .."The gold market is being driven by investment demand, which saw another 6.15 tons of gold bought in the last two days,".. Dollar falls on housing, trade dispute.. The dollar "enters a new selling wave" after the U.S. government said it will file complaints at the World Trade Organization.. This is "raising fears that China may reduce purchases of U.S. bonds, making it much more difficult for the U.S. to finance its external deficit,"

Putin Worried by Excessive Appreciation of Russia’s Ruble.. in January-December 2006 ruble appreciated by 17 percent against the U.S. dollar and by 5.8 percent against the euro.

What should you pay for a house?.. Huren vs Kopen..If you look at the very long term, houses have been the worst investment available to the general public.. Don't take financial advice from realtors, lenders, mortgage brokers, or anyone else who gets paid only if they convince you to buy. Put in your own numbers and calculate what it would really cost you to own rather than to rent.

US Housing Crash Continues.. It's A Terrible Time To Buy.. Why?.. When it is possible to borrow a million dollar house for 2% yearly rent at the same time a loan of a million dollars in cash costs 6% interest, plus 1% property tax, plus 1% maintenance, something is clearly broken. Renters are enjoying an extreme discount… "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender."

the criminal group smuggled steel rolled stock and nickel worth about $1 billion into Russia, and failed to pay over $380 million in taxes

Iran: the Threat of a Nuclear War.. General Leonid Ivashov.. What is the real reason why the US is unleashing this military conflict?.. The activities having consequences of global proportions can only be intended to deal with a global problem. This problem itself is by no means something secret - it is the possibility of a crash of the global financial system based on the US dollar. Currently the mass of  US currency exceeds the total worth of  US assets by more than a factor of ten. Everything in the US - industry, buildings, high-tech, and so on - has been mortgaged more than ten times all over the world. A debt of such proportions will never be repaid - it can only be relieved… This is why the aggressor ignores the global catastrophic consequences of its offensive. The bankrupt 'global bankers' need a force major event of global proportions to get out of the situation.

480 US nuclear warheads in Europe.. the U.S. military is keeping 480 nuclear warheads across Europe, 90 in Italy. .. The Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) has banned the deployment of so many nuclear warheads in Europe.

Army Is Cracking Down on Deserters.. Using courts-martial for these violations, which before 2002 were treated mostly as unpunished nuisances, is a sign that active-duty forces are being stretched to their limits, military lawyers and mental health experts said… “They are scraping to get people to go back, and people are worn out,”.. “We’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to get people to join.”

An emerging virulent stem rust race and vulnerability of wheat in the U.S.and worldwide... If Ug99 is detected within the United States there would not be enough fungicide to combat rust spores for soybeans and wheat simultaneously… There have been several documented cases of travelers carrying rust spores on their clothing. Some fear that Ug99 could also be spread for the purposes of warfare. For example, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security met in March of 2007 to entertain the possibility that someone or some group may want to transport Ug99 deliberately.

Ugh!..The Mogambo Guru..So, the lesson is clear; those Zimbabweans who put their savings into gold, instead of Zimbabwean dollars and assets that can be easily seized and devalued by a government, made out very well, just as the theory predicts!

Engines of Inflation!.. Central banks are the engines of inflation.. Monetary inflation has another other dire consequence; it does not affect everybody in a uniform manner and causes a great wealth-divide…In a world of inflated asset-prices, precious metals, energy and agricultural commodities are still inexpensive in real-terms and (especially) relative to financial assets.

WAR, ENERGY, BANKS & USDOLLAR.. Jim Willie CB.. The risks to the USDollar are rising from both liberal monetary forces and desperate energy forces, not to mention geopolitical backlash forces…[Iran]..nuclear proliferation as the argument for attacking Iran. Sure, they might be on a slow track for nuclear refinement, but oil pipelines and a major Russian alliance and Chinese mega energy contracts and befriending former Soviet Republics in “Chaostan” and selling oil in euro transactions and integrated regional energy & military weapons contracts and monumental accumulation of wealth (Western debt) in the East and power shift from West to East, reaction to these powerful forces is the real true valid unmistakable motives for war.

Oil, Smoke & Mirrors.. Video.Google..50min.

Iran planning to stop using U.S. dollar to price oil, central bank governor says.. Sheibany said that almost all of Iran's European clients and some of its Asian customers have accepted making payments in non-dollar currencies…"Even if we get dollars, we directly convert it to other currencies. Japanese don't mind paying us in yen, for example," he said.

Analysis: EU dreams of common army.. "We need to get closer to a common army for Europe," Merkel last week told German daily Bild…"We will not become a global player if we don't have a common military," Günter Verheugen, the EU's industry commissioner.. an EU army would also need a fortified political basis. "It's difficult to form a real army without a state,"

Russian intelligence sees U.S. military buildup on Iran border.. Col.-Gen. Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences, said last week that the Pentagon is planning to deliver a massive air strike on Iran's military infrastructure in the near future.

WHAT EXACTLY IS INFLATION?.. "too much money chasing too few goods",..Now, let us finally consider the role of the Federal Reserve. The very nature of the Federal Reserve is to create inflation and manage inflation expectations. The Fed presents the illusion they are fighting inflation, but their whole purpose in life is to inflate the money supply…If there is more currency in the economy, eventually, it has to work its way into pricing.

China shifts to euros for Iran oil.. "Most of China's purchases have shifted to euro. It's not difficult so long as our banks can handle that," said a Chinese state oil trader…Iran's major European customers include Royal Dutch Shell , France's Total and Spain's Repsol . The United States has banned imports of Iranian crude since 1995.

Europe's nightmare: A world natural gas cartel.. The most important supporter for such a cartel is Iran, the world’s second largest natural gas producer,.. "WIPED OFF THE MAP"..According to legend, Iran's President has threatened to destroy Israel, or, to quote the misquote, "Israel must be wiped off the map". Contrary to popular belief, this statement was never made, as the following article will prove.. The full quote translated directly to English: "The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time"…The inflammatory "wiped off the map" quote was first disseminated not by Iran's enemies, but by Iran itself.

Germany’s Wintershall Defends Russia, Pledges $4.7Bln Investments to Gazprom.. Europe buys a quarter of its natural gas from Russia. Germany buys more than 35 percent from Russia…When asked if he had any concerns about the Russian authorities’ own record of property rights when it recently reduced the stakes held by foreign companies, including Shell, in companies in Russia, Zwitserloot said that Wintershall always had an excellent relationship with Russia.

After The [Silver] Deficit.. Theodore Butler.. The answer is that the law of supply and demand and price only applies to free markets, not controlled or manipulated markets…Sixty years ago, there were roughly 10 billion ounces in world silver inventories.. Whatever the number, we are down 90%, or 9 billion ounces, from what we formerly had, thanks to the structural silver deficit…For the long term silver investor, the magical phase, the age of real prosperity, is about to begin.

WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES.. Ibbotson reached several conclusions. First, they concluded that precious metals are the most negatively correlated asset class to traditional financial assets and, as a result, they act as a hedge for the entire portfolio. During high inflation periods, precious metals outperformed all asset classes. During periods of stress, they provided returns when they were needed most. During low inflation periods, they provided bond-like returns…if you were to measure from 1971 to today, and adjust for inflation, gold has increased about 250% in real terms vs. the Dow's 180%...Gold, silver and platinum bullion cannot decline to zero and they cannot be created at will by central bankers or governments. Rumsfeld's transition raises questions.. Rumsfeld has left the Pentagon, but not the Defense Department…The Pentagon lists Mr. Rumsfeld as a "nonpaid consultant," a status he needs in order to review secret and top-secret documents, the official said.

Iran To Conduct Missile War Games.. "The elite Revolutionary Guards plans to begin a three-day missile maneuver on Sunday near Garmsar city," said the broadcast. The city is located in northern Iran on the edge of Kavir desert, about 60 miles southeast of Tehran.

CAN WE AFFORD ANOTHER SAUDI RESPONSE PART 2.. Lower production from BP and Chevron, and the most shocking of them all from Norway in which they cut their 2007 production forecast by about 13%...It is indeed alarming how quickly the world's most productive regions are falling…So where does supply go from here?

EU Official Vents Frustration at Russia’s Gas Cooperation with Algeria.. Speaking in Berlin, Piebalgs claimed that if Russia and Algeria agreed to cooperate in the production and distribution of gas to Europe, “they could create a kind of cartel”… Russia provides 25 percent of European gas supplies and Algeria 10 percent.

Belarus Wants Russia to Pay Rent for Land Under Pipelines.. Belarus is a transit territory to Gazprom’s Yamal-Europe gas pipeline

Nuclear energy's French connection.. That’s because Areva, an atomic energy giant owned by the French government, appears to be better positioned than any of its competitors to benefit from growth in the U.S. nuclear industry and increased federal spending on it…In the 1970s, the company's predecessors in the French state-owned nuclear industry also helped Saddam Hussein’s effort to acquire nuclear weapons by supplying highly enriched uranium and the Osiraq reactor near Baghdad, which was bombed in a pre-emptive strike in 1981 by Israel.

Putin Signs Nuclear Power Plant Deal with India.. to build four more nuclear power plants in India…“India’s Energy security is the most important of the emerging dimensions of our strategic partnership…The two countries are also exploring Indian investment in the Sakhalin-3 oil and gas exploration blocks in the Pacific…for now India is the second-biggest buyer of Russian weapons after China. Up to 80 percent of weapons and hardware now in use by New Delhi has been supplied by Moscow, experts say.

Russian Citizen Arrested in Georgia for Smuggling Uranium .. The arrest underscored concerns about the possibility of terrorists acquiring nuclear bomb-making material on the black market, although there was no suggestion that this particular case was terrorist-related.

Russia Should Be Sanctioned for Selling Arms to Iran — U.S. Official.. recent delivery of Russian Tor-M1 missile system to Iran.. The measures are likely to follow because Bush administration had harshly criticized Russia’s defense contract with Iran and urged the Kremlin to terminate it…When Russia signed the contract with Iran for the delivery of 29 missile complexes Tor-M1 in December 2005, the US administration said that the contract could not comply with interests of both the USA and the region. Sergei Ivanov responded that it was a legitimate deal between the two countries, no matter if someone liked it or not.

Russian Defense Minister Speaks Out Against U.S. Anti-Missile System in Europe.. U.S. plans to deploy missile defense sites in Poland and Czech Republic Wednesday.. “They don’t and won’t have intercontinental ballistic missiles,” the minister said at a news conference. “And a question comes: whom it’s directed against?”.. how Russia could respond to the U.S. move, Ivanov said Wednesday that there was no need for any quick retaliation. “Our strategic nuclear forces ensure national security under any scenario,” he said.

EU constitution 'is still alive'.. "We want a political Europe that can speak with one voice, and with one minister of foreign affairs and a common foreign service." .. They also back the draft constitution's shift towards more qualified majority voting, and the inclusion in the text of the Charter of Fundamental Rights. (doel Europese grondwet=Europees leger, Europese min. v. BZ, Kleine landen geen veto-recht rest is reeds geregeld; Nederland als Europese provincie.)

The Empire Turns Its Guns on the Citizenry.. use of paramilitary police units.. SWAT teams are not held accountable for their tragic mistakes and gratuitous brutality…Killings by police were "off the charts,"

Ray gun makes targets feel as if they are on fire.. "This is one of the key technologies for the future,".. The system uses millimeter waves, which can penetrate only 1/64th of an inch of skin, just enough to cause discomfort. By comparison, common kitchen microwaves penetrate several inches of skin.

Military Builds Robotic Insects.. "You're not going to be knocking down walls," says Davis. "What we're looking at is functional defeat.".. But what about attacking people?.. the tiny vehicle itself might be the warhead.. Poison needles or stings

Some Asian fish species decimated, study finds.. The rising demand for live reef fish by seafood-hungry diners in China.. that human exploitation of the high seas was putting many of its resources on the verge of extinction.

China Faces Grain-Supply Shortage as Farmland Shrinks.. ``We can't solve China's grain problems through imports: they cannot be depended upon,''.. ``The decline in arable land is a trend,''.. The probability that wheat yields this year will be lower than 2006 is ``fairly high'' because of drought and high temperatures during the early growing season,

Warming to raise seas for 1,000 years-UN draft.. The draft projects more droughts, rains, shrinking Arctic ice and glaciers and rising sea levels to 2100 and cautions that the effects of a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere will last far longer…It notes that sea levels were probably 4 to 6 metres higher

Hobbit cave digs set to restart.. The researchers claim that the remains belong to a novel species of human…it's going to make a major contribution to our understanding of hominin evolution."

It was horrifying, horrifying!.. And speaking of gold, gives us the news that Russian demand for gold is exceeding supply, and this has turned Russia into an importer of gold already. And, to make the future of gold shine a little brighter, they say that the central banks have sold so much gold already that there isn't that much left, and thus any drop in Central Bank supplies is certain to produce a supply shortfall in 2007.

Tedbits: 2007 Forecast..(must read) Looking around the world.. we can see rates of currency and credit growth ranging from 9.8% to 50% almost anywhere we look. On a compounded basis it equates doubling the money in circulation on anywhere from a 2 to 6 year basis depending on the country you are reviewing… But what is more troubling is that money and credit creation is now outside the central banks control, and is expanding on an almost geometric scale.. Gold and precious metals, who wants paper? Nuff said.. In Conclusion, we are in a Global experiment that will not end soon.

A massive transfer of wealth.. Once you have read it, consider that fiat currencies around the world are being devalued at a rapid pace and that investors who have relegated their life savings to professionals are being hosed because they are actually losing money while they think they are making money. You can see why I believe a massive transfer of wealth lies ahead, from those who do not understand the true nature of fiat money to those who do, and are taking steps to safeguard their capital.

The Federal War on Gold.. Inflation is the process by which governments print up the money to pay for ever-increasing expenditures…One of the ways that our ancestors attempted to protect their freedom and property from federal assault was through the establishment of a monetary system based on precious metals, specifically gold and silver coin…No, the real reason for Roosevelt’s gold seizure was twofold: First, he seized people’s gold for the same reason that Castro later seized people’s homes and businesses – to enrich the coffers of the federal government. Second, but more important, he did it to prevent the American people from protecting themselves from the onslaught of ever-depreciating paper money that he planned to use to finance his ever-extravagant welfare-state programs.

George Bush has another war in mind.. Bush said that to defend the "territorial integrity" of Iraq, the United States must address "Iran and Syria.".."These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq." .. U.S. plans envision broad attack on Iran... U.S. contingency planning for military action against Iran's nuclear program goes beyond limited strikes and would effectively unleash a war against the country, a former U.S. intelligence analyst said on Friday...Iran: Pieces in Place for Escalation.. The pieces are moving.  They’ll be in place by the end of February…As one of the last steps before a strike, we’ll see USAF tankers moved to unusual places, like Bulgaria.  These will be used to refuel the US-based B-2 bombers on their strike missions into Iran.  When that happens, we’ll only be days away from a strike…«Babylon-2» as Armageddon. On US-Israeli Plans For a Nuclear War.. The currently planned Israeli attack using tactical nuclear weapons, which may be arbitrarily designated as «Babylon-2», has as its key targets the uranium enrichment centrifuges.. Stop the Iran Attack or be Complicit in Nuclear War Crimes.. Preparations for the Iran attack..

Rogers Says Oil Will Rise to $100 After `Correction' (Update6.. Rogers, 64, who created a series of commodities indexes and foresees a long-term bull market in oil, metals and grains, said he hadn't changed his positive view.

Towards Oil at $200 a Barrel.. We have the supposedly “straight talking” defense secretary telling Congress that there is no plan “at the moment” to attack Iran—even as he sends two aircraft carrier battle groups into the Persian Gulf and stockpiles Patriot anti-missile batteries in the region.. There are no more troops left to fight in Iran, so all the U.S. could hope to do would be to bomb that country. But bombing that country would do nothing to stop Iran from retaliating in myriad ways that could bring the U.S. to its knees.

Venezuela Spending Caps May Ease Inflation, Maza Says.. Maza, one of seven central bank directors, said inflation won't slow unless consumer demand weakens and price controls are enforced… Currency restrictions Chavez imposed in 2003 obligate individuals and companies to apply for government authorization to buy dollars at the official exchange rate. Many of those who don't get approval to buy in the official market turn to the unregulated market for dollars

Jordan seeks to establish own nuclear programme.. "The rules on the nuclear issue in our region have completely changed," King Abdullah said. "The Egyptians are striving for their own nuclear programme and so, too, the Persian Gulf countries."

Former US Sec of Defense suggests Military action against North Korea.. ``Clearly, this is a dangerous alternative,’’ he said. ``If China and South Korea do not agree to applying coercion, the United States may be forced to military action which, while it certainly would be successful, could lead to dangerous unintended consequences,’’ he said.

Zimbabwe.Police looting our gold, say miners.. The police action, if confirmed, could prejudice small-scale miners of several millions of dollars. One described what was going on as "daylight robbery".

Zimbabwe..Bleak outlook for 2007.. As far as inflation is concerned - and foreign-exchange rates on informal markets - both can be expected to rise even faster than in 2006. Inflation is set to exceed 2,000 per cent shortly and will probably rise still further by mid-year. If government continues to insist on price controls,

Zim won't suffer catastrophic power cuts.. It was not immediately clear how regional countries, also battling shortfalls due to growing domestic demand, would manage to spare enough for exports to Zimbabwe. .South Africa was yesterday reported to be facing nation-wide power cuts due to an unexpected surge in demand, leaving the country with a 2 000 megawatt power deficit.."The situation is critical,"

Kissinger hails Iraq troop surge, says withdrawal not an option.. He calls America "the indispensable component of any attempt to build a new world order.".. Kissinger declares that the U.S. is in Iraq as "an expression of the American national interest to prevent the Iranian combination of imperialism and fundamentalist ideology from dominating a region on which the energy supplies of the industrial democracies depend."

A Small Fish Becomes an Indicator of Global Warming.. The lab tests showed that warm water prevents an eelpout from absorbing enough oxygen to cope with a changing environment. Heat, in other words, can make the lazy eelpout even lazier…and their study has also established a link between rising sea temperatures and declining numbers of fish…"If temperatures are going to change in (the) future, then it will have a major impact on the distribution of animals.".. As an example, Knust points to the striped red mullet, a tasty fish normally caught off the coast of Italy, Mallorca, and Spain. Now they're increasingly found in the North Sea, too.

The Weather Channel Mess.. The climate of this planet has been changing since God put the planet here. It will always change, and the warming in the last 10 years is not much difference than the warming we saw in the 1930s and other decades. And, lets not forget we are at the end of the ice age in which ice covered most of North America and Northern Europe. (hoe dan ook..het wordt warmer..dus effecten op landbouw, dijken etc.)

I can still kick, squirm, spit, scream.. The Mogambo Guru.. I seldom get the chance to report anecdotal news.. Roger S. Renken of the Northwest Territorial Mint writes of “An interesting new development. I have had 2 separate clients be limited in the amount of money they are allowed to wire transfer to $100k in one day”. From other people I hear that the same problem is appearing for people wanting a lot less than $100,000, too! .. He thinks it is all ”scary”. I think it is all “scary”. We both think it is all “scary”. (currency controls ?)

FORBIDDEN RESEARCH.. Antal E. Fekete.. A gold standard is a mechanism whereby people exercise their God-given right to create or extinguish money, while denying monopoly power of money-creation to would-be crooks.,, The chief merit of the gold standard is not to be found in the stabilization of prices which is neither possible nor desirable. It is to be found in the stabilization of interest rates…The idea of increasing the stock of money by central banks based on scientific principles is chimerical. There is no scientific way of determining the optimal rate of increase in the money supply any more than there is a scientific way of predicting the future…We should remember that every experiment in history with irredeemable currency has ended in a cataclysm unless the currency was stabilized in time by making it convertible into gold…The global regime of irredeemable currency throws the inhabitants of Earth into bondage. Monetary servitude is no better than other forms, long since discarded by history, such as slavery and serfdom…

Fiat Money: History Repeats Itself.. While the assignats had hurt the rich, they had absolutely devastated the working class. According to historian Heinrich von Sybel, "Financiers and men of large means were shrewd enough to put as much of their property as possible into objects of permanent value. The working classes had no such foresight or skill or means. After the first collapse came up the cries of the starving. Roads and bridges were neglected; many manufactures were given up in utter helplessness."..

Hyperinflation.. Hyperinflation is generally associated with paper money because the means to increasing the money supply with paper money is the simplest: add more zeroes to the plates and print, or even stamp old notes with new numbers. It also is the most dramatic. There have been numerous episodes of hyperinflation, followed by a return to "hard money"…In times of hyperinflation, gold is a store of value which cannot be printed out of existence.. In times of inflation, the price of gold rises by roughly the devaluation of the paper currency…Root causes of hyperinflation.. Hyperinflation around the world

The Predictions for 2007.. effort will be made today to be a bit more humble when prognosticating on 2007…

Gold May Rise to Record $855 an Ounce This Year, Sharekhan Says.. Gold may rise to a record $855 an ounce this year as the U.S. dollar extends its decline, reducing the appeal of dollar-denominated assets, according to India's Sharekhan Commodities Pvt. Ltd.. Global gold output in the nine months ended Sept. 30 fell 2.2 percent to 1,804 metric tons from a year earlier, according to London-based researcher GFMS Ltd.

Treasury Inflation Bond Funds Lose Investors for First Time.. Investors are withdrawing money from Treasury bond mutual funds that protect against inflation for the first time, a sign of confidence that the Federal Reserve will keep price increases from accelerating…``For now, inflation seems pretty tame so I'd rather have a higher-yielding instrument,'' (…werkelijke inflatie is altijd groter dan door de CB’en berekende core-inflation)

Barclays Ph.D.s Build Hedge Fund Giant Inside Bank.. The shares had been picked overnight by computer software.. BGI is one of the most powerful forces in money management today. It's a den of finance Ph.D.s, mathematicians and other disciples of quantitative analysis, or quants. BGI quants design investing strategies for thousands of stocks, bonds and currencies and then use computers to pick which ones to buy and sell…manages almost $1.7 trillion in assets and has a finger in 65 of the world's 100 largest pension plans…Pension funds typically need to earn 8-9 percent annually to meet their obligations

THE WORLD'S PUSH FOR POWER.. You remember the blackout of 2003?.. The North American power grid is the largest in the world - and is in need of some major renovations…Then there’s Europe…“Europe faces the growing threat of electricity shortages because growth in demand has outstripped investment in new power stations.” Sound familiar? In Europe, spending on electrical infrastructure comes in at around $40 billion by 2010.

Are you 'coping' or 'freaking out' about Peak Oil?.. We are a small but growing group of professionally trained psychotherapists who know the stress the dawning awareness of Peak Oil brings…Types of Emotional Responses..

Planning for a Post Carbon Era.. Remember the Boy Scouts: Expect the worst, hope for the best. That way you will be both prepared, in the event of disaster, and pleasantly surprised, in the event of anything else…Basically, to envision the PCE, one must only think of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, multiply that effect by 2 or 3, and broaden it to a national scale…I have determined in my own mind that I will not be afraid…In a culture defined and ruled by fear, I think that is a revolutionary act.

U.S. Administration Sides With Russia in Belarus Oil Tariff Row.. The U.S. official has named the new oil transit duty imposed by Belarus as just another example of the “rotten core” of this [Lukashenko’s] regime and said that this scheme is being used “for the personal profit of those around the leadership of the Lukashenko regime”…. Belarus has introduced oil transit duty of $45 per ton of Russian crude, in retaliation for being forced to pay a higher price of $100 per 1,000 cubic meters of Russian gas.

The "Demonization" of Muslims and the Battle for Oil.. Throughout history, "wars of religion" have served to obscure the economic and strategic interests behind the conquest and invasion of foreign lands.. Iraq has five times more oil than the United States…Muslim countries possess at least 16 times more oil than the Western countries…The major non-Muslim oil reserve countries are Venezuela, Russia, Mexico, China and Brazil.. Demonization is a PSYOP, used to sway public opinion and build a consensus in favor of war.. In the Middle East  war theater, Iran and Syria, which are part of the "axis of evil", are the next targets according to official US statements…

Bush prepares to escalate Iraq war.. Rather than follow the proposals of negotiations put forth by the Iraq Study Group and other imperialist strategists who fear impending disaster for the U.S. in Iraq, Bush has signaled with the execution of Saddam Hussein a decision to escalate the war…The war was never about bringing democracy to Iraq…U.S. imperialism has never opposed dictators.. the U.S. government has supported some of the most brutal regimes in history, when it served Wall Street’s interests…Finally, it is essential that this movement demand that U.S government and military officials be charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity for their actions in Iraq…

Blair still silent on Saddam.. Tony Blair has refused again to comment on the execution of Saddam Hussein, leaving himself out of step with members of his Cabinet.

America's interests in Somalia: Four major U.S. oil companies are sitting on a prospective fortune in exclusive concessions... This article was first published in December 2001.. US warships guard Somali coast

The Next Stage of Capitalism.. To Barnes, the costs of Capitalism 2.0 on humanity are clear: growing inequality, increasingly stressful lives, ever-widening holes in the safety net as capital spills across borders and corporate revenues and power begin to exceed those of many nations…"How do you revise a system as vast and complex as capitalism? And how do you do it gracefully, with a minimum of pain and disruption?"… A significant test for this new approach to the Commons may come as we develop strategies to combat global warming.

Another flight from reality by President Bush.. Does anyone, including the president, really believe that an additional 10,000 or even 30,000 soldiers and Marines on top of the 140,000 now in Iraq are somehow going to make Baghdad more secure, or clean up the Sunni insurgents who control much of Anbar province?

China's Coal Future.. synthetic oil will turn a profit at roughly $30 a barrel, though many analysts say $45 is more realistic. (The U.S. Department of Energy's most recent price forecast predicts that crude oil will dip to $47 a barrel in 2014, then climb steadily to $57 a barrel in 2030.).. China's National Development and Reform Commission.. issued a warning about the environmental consequences of the "runaway development" of synthetic-oil and chemical plants, which it said will consume tens of millions of cubic meters of water annually…Will China really wait until 2020 to start the process of cleaning up its coal-fired power plants?.. when the costs of air pollution become as worrisome as the costs of relying on foreign oil.

Surprise, Surprise! China Economy May Accelerate: William Pesek.. Amid scant evidence of the meltdown many observers fear, China may be more willing to test the economic boundaries. That could mean faster growth in the short run and bigger problems down the road.

IRAN WAR 'IN 2YRS'.. An Israeli attack before the US election in November 2008 risks sparking a military explosion in the Middle East.

Iranian official: If threatened, we will use nuclear weapons.. "Today, we have produced more than 250 tons of UF-6. Should you visit Isfahan, you will see we have constructed tunnels that are almost unique in the world,"

Sanctions imposed on Iran, Syria arms suppliers.. The Bush administration is imposing economic sanctions on Chinese, Russian and North Korean companies for selling missiles and weapons goods to Iran and Syria.. The sanctions also will penalize Russian state-run arms exporter Rosoboroneksport.. signed deals with Syria worth $9.7 billion in May 2005.. The Russian government exporter also signed a contract last year to sell $3 billion worth of arms to Venezuela, whose regime has emerged as key regional U.S. enemy… Rosoboroneksport is run by Sergei Chemzov, a former KGB colleague of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Moscow slams U.S. sanctions on its military firms.. Rosoboronexport, one of the world's biggest arms traders, has recently won control of the Russian firm VSMPO-Avisma, the world's largest titanium producer. It is a key supplier of titanium parts to U.S. aviation giant Boeing and Europe's EADS.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez' oil largesse.. A 58-year-old disabled mother in Baltimore..She is the first of 15,000 needy households in Maryland slated to receive more than 3 million gallons of discounted fuel. The heating oil program is part of a promise by the country's socialist leader to aid America's poor. Citgo said it will expand the program beyond the Northeast to provide oil at a 40 percent discount to more than 400,000 households in 16 states. The program has grown from nearly 40 million gallons last winter to more than 100 million gallons this winter..

'Precocious Puberty' Is on the Rise.. Although scientists have yet to prove definitive causes, many suspect that hormone-mimicking chemicals, obesity and stress all contribute to precocious puberty. The chemicals, often called endocrine disruptors, are of particular concern because they’re everywhere -- in food, water, personal-care products, some plastics and many consumer goods…The New York Times notes that prescriptions for products containing testosterone are on the rise, doubling to more than 2.4 million between 2000 and 2004.

Fuelling a Food Crisis: The impact of peak oil on food security.. The amount of energy is concentrated in even a small amount of oil or gas is extraordinary. A barrel of oil contains the energy-equivalent of almost 25,000 hours of human labour…We caught a glimpse of just how dependent the supply of even the most basic foods have become on petroleum during the blockades at oil refineries and distribution depots in September 2000, when the protest by farmers and road hauliers against higher fuel taxes triggered a national “fuel crisis.” Within days, the supermarkets began to ration sales of bread, milk and sugar…the price of oil is setting the price for food simply because if the fuel value of a commodity exceeds its value as food, it will be converted into fuel - “in effect, supermarkets and service stations are now competing for the same commodities.”.. we are already facing a world of potential grain shortages.

Rise in Ethanol Raises Concerns About Corn as a Food.. In all, ethanol distilleries now running or in the works will pull an estimated 139 million tons of corn from the 2008 corn harvest.. Some towns are also demanding environmental studies to better understand the impact ethanol plants can have on water supplies and quality of the groundwater

The Qualities of Gold Shine Through?.. July 01, 2003.. Gold gives credibility to devaluing currencies.. Gold cannot be printed at "essentially no cost"…Gold, unprintable, no man's liability…When chaos reigns, gold has a reliable value.. Stable, long term performance.. The transferability of wealth, as gold.. Governments want gold firmly in their own hands, not in those of their Citizens

RUMBLINGS OF EURO DISCONTENT.. Christopher Laird.. French and other officials openly calling for the abandonment of the Euro in the sense of at least re attaining local central bank controls over interest rates…Reports of Germany and France readying stocks of native (non euro) currencies.. French Premier Dominique de Villepin even called for limits on the power of the ECB, espousing the need to reassert national control over the economy. "We must clarify matters in exchange rate policy, which means taking back our sovereignty,".. So, even though the USD is in very serious trouble going into 07, I would not necessarily jump with everything into the Euro!

The World's Reserve Currency.. More importantly, our greatest benefactors for the last twenty years-- Asian central banks-- have lost their appetite for holding U.S. dollars…and when the Federal Reserve increases the money supply by trillions of dollars in just 15 years, we hardly can expect our dollars to increase in value.

SILVER - READY TO ROLL.. This year silver rose over 40% yet is only starting to draw attention from the investment crowd…

Gold Climbs, Extending 2006 Gains, as Dollar Drops Against Euro.. The U.S. currency's 10 percent decline against the euro last year helped drive up gold prices by 23 percent.

Zimbabwe arrests illegal miners.. arrested 16,000 people as part of a three-week long campaign to curb illegal mining…police seized more than 500,000 kg of gold and 5,000 diamonds.. "The unemployment rate is above 80%. Also the manufacturing sector has shrunk by 60%. Zimbabwe is in its worst economic recession so everybody will do anything to survive,"

Bush 'to reveal Iraq troop boost'.. Its central theme will be sacrifice.

New powers to store suspects' DNA.. will allow the police to store such information on a database, even if there is no conviction.

'If we fail to act, we will end up with a different planet'.. "If we go another 10 years, by 2015, at the current rate of growth of CO2 emissions, which is about 2 per cent per year, the emissions in 2015 will be 35 per cent larger than they were in 2000…"The last time it was 3C warmer, sea levels were 25 metres higher, plus or minus 10 metres. You'd not get that in one century, but you could get several metres in one century," he said. "Half the people in the world live within 15 miles of a coastline.

World faces hottest year ever, as El Niño combines with global warming.. The co-relation with global warming is as yet unclear

Buy gold or get clobbered.. The Mogambo you what I mean, the government budgeted $2.6 trillion, and they spent another $600 billion on top of that, to the tune of $3.2 trillion in cash outlays last year! The GDP of the United States is only $13 trillion, for crying out loud! And the actual, real-life deficit last fiscal year, as reported by the Treasury itself, was $4.6 trillion! 35% of GDP! In one year!.. The lesson itself is in two parts. The first is that the Chinese government is, literally,     encouraging Chinese people (a third of the world's population) to buy gold, and the second lesson is that you must be some kind of idiot that you did not instinctively run out to buy some more gold to front-run the price run-up that will stem from this government-encouraged demand.

Dollar Slides; U.A.E. Says Selling U.S. Currency, Buying Euros.. The U.A.E.'s decision to relocate its reserves is part of a theme that means that U.S. dollar holdings in global currency reserves are decreasing.. The National Association of Manufacturers in the U.S. predicts slower economic growth will prompt the Fed to lower rates by a half-percentage point by the middle of 2007

Gold up as investors look for safe investments

ALGERIA INCREASES THE PRICE OF OIL.. This trend implies consumer nations will never be able to reach a long term contractual relationship with producer nations for the allocation of earth’s remaining oil and natural gas resources. Producer nations will continue to pursue pricing and production decisions based on their selfish best interest.

Gazprom Warns European Customers of Possible Disruptions in Deliveries.. “the developing situation regarding gas supplies to Belarus,” suggesting it may fear disruptions in deliveries to those countries. About 30 percent of Russian gas supplies to Europe transit through Belarus, much of it to Germany, Poland and Lithuania…Belarus Warns It Will Stop Russian Gas Deliveries to Europe.. Gazprom has repeatedly warned Belarus it has to pay higher prices from 2007 and share control of its pipelines with the Russian firm or face reduced supplies from the New Year.

Saddam's Baath party threatens to hit U.S targets.. to retaliate if the ousted leader is executed, saying hanging him was a red line the United States should not cross…Executing Saddam will not bring peace to Iraq

US tries to assure allies that extraordinary renditions are over.. Believing that only some 50 detainees would be tried, allies are concerned that 200 other prisoners, designated as high-risk, would be detained indefinitely without trial and barred from challenging their detention in the federal courts. Complicating the process is Washington's fear that releasing more detainees will lead to a flood of legal cases against the US.

NATO Chief Says Expansion to Ukraine and Georgia Will Not Harm Russia

Domestic Turkeys.. am referring to the fact that Western civilisation is beset with a stupidity that is so rampant, so widespread and so ingrained that it cannot continue for much longer. .. 'Follow the money' has justifiably become the mantra of the age as it is often the only way to find out what is really going on. To do so shows an alarming discrepancy between appearance and reality.

2007 Will Be Big For Precious Metals.. The entire fiat currency illusion that is built only on the confidence of people who use it is in the process of disappearing. As the value of U.S. currency continues to erode, the American dominance of the world will go with it…the fact that both gold and silver have more than doubled since 2000 with very little participation from the general public…If Iran makes a serious move towards using the Euro, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see military action against Iran because of it. Saddam Hussein wanted to trade oil for Euros and we invaded his country. Another country that has talked about using the Euro in oil transactions is Venezuela.. Chances are likely that the Fed is going to continue inflating the money supply until inflation really runs wild. When it is obvious that there are major problems with our currency that is when we will start hearing much more about a regional North American currency.

Mogambo Investment-Sector Pick O' The Week.. The Mogambo Guru.. the very thought of a falling M-2 money supply made Ben Bernanke's anal sphincter seize up so tight that it cut off blood flow to his stupid head, which is an old, childish and ridiculous joke, I know, but which, somehow, perfectly suits my Melancholy (pause) Mogambo (pause) Mood (MMM) these days.  Ugh.

Here Comes the Amero.. let me assure you that the possibility of a North American Union and the Amero currency is very real…The publication talks about building a North American Community by the year 2010…

The Rise of Russia and the Coming Resource Wars.. Russia is loaded with dollars and it wants to drastically reduce its holdings and come up with an alternative currency to price oil and other natural resources…Putin.. "The ruble must become a more widespread means of international transactions. To this end, we need to open a stock exchange in Russia to trade in oil, gas, and other goods to be paid for with rubles,"

The United States is Insolvent.. The US Treasury department has issued a public report warning that we are on an unsustainable path and that we face difficult choices that will only become more costly the longer we delay…If we perform the same calculations for the US, however, we find that the official debt stands at $8.507 trillion or 65% of (nominal) GDP but when we add in our “off balance sheet” items the national debt stands at $53 trillion or 403% of GDP.

ECB Gold Reserve -EUR410 Million... The Eurosystem's reserves of gold and gold receivables fell EUR410 million to EUR174.056 billion in the week ended Dec. 15, the European Central Bank said (ong. 2,7 ton goud)

IMF should mandate total central bank gold loan disclosure.. Blanchard & Co. criticizes the secrecy of central bank gold lending, calling on the International Monetary Fund to mandate that central banks make complete and frequent disclosure of gold lending.  “While central banks report sales and purchases to the IMF, they do not report their levels of holdings on loan,”.. An IMF Committee on Reserve Assets agreed with Takeda’s position that a clearer description of the treatment of gold swaps and loans is needed. They also agreed that if the unallocated gold is not available upon demand, “it should be removed from reserve assets.” (zie: (lees zeker pg 10)

Three Strikes Against the Dollar.. James Turk.. the outlook for the US dollar is worsening

U.S. Mint Idiocy Continues.. The U.S. Mint is now prohibiting the melting of pennies and nickels as well as imposing other regulatory non-sense on U.S. citizens. Below is the press release in its entirety…

Airbus could trigger 'nuclear option' of currency controls.. It concluded that Brussels may lawfully freeze capital flows in and out of the EU, and within it, and that this could be done by a "qualified majority" of EU finance ministers, leaving Britain with no veto…I was told by an Airbus official last year that if the euro exchange rate went above $1.30 for long, the company was "cooked"…Soon Airbus will face the full violence of the spot market.

Iran seeks to replace dollar with euro.. The government has ordered the central bank to replace the dollar with the euro to limit the problems of the executive organs in commercial transactions.. Bankers in Iran have complained in recent weeks that it was becoming increasingly difficult to receive Iranian-held money denominated in dollars from European bank accounts. They said that this was because of US pressure on European banking giants not to allow dollar-denominated funds to be sent into, or out of, the Islamic republic.

US to warn Iran with naval buildup in Gulf.. buildup, which would begin in January, wad not aimed at an attack on Iran but to discourage what U.S. officials view as increasingly provocative acts by Tehran.

From the Wilderness.. Mike Ruppert.. FTW is really screwed up right now. Everybody knows it and I am not going ignore it. I am in bad shape too… FTW’s time of usefulness on this planet is ending… At the end of this article I will list options for those who want to help me personally and give FTW the decent end it deserves. I know you’re out there. I am nearly broke and am unable to even purchase a plane ticket if I had another country to go to or a bed to sleep in when I got there. Venezuela has kicked my butt as you will soon see. How all of that happened gave me the “inspiration” for this final FTW essay. This is my tribute to Michael Kane and to all who have learned from FTW, taken the map we have drawn, and are now reading it for themselves. God bless you. The struggle continues. – MCR]

The Dollar May Fall After the Election.. We believe we have just seen the beginning of a more pronounced slowdown that will likely push us into recession. The reason why we are more negative than many economists is that high levels of consumer debt make the economy much more interest rate sensitive than in past economic cycles.

On the wall. So Why Don’t Investors?.. What will happen when the war ends in defeat? First, worldwide confidence in the U.S. will plunge, prompting foreign investors to sell their U.S. investments. The U.S. dollar and U.S. bonds will plunge. Second, due to fears of the Iran-Iraq axis, oil prices will go berserk, likely surpassing the $100-per-barrel level. Third, gold will skyrocket, as investors flee the dollar for safety.

The € rising as a reserve currency ahead of a $ crisis..

Growth Causes Inflation?.. We often read about the inflation threat posed by stronger economic growth.. In a growing economy, the ONLY way the general price level can rise over a long period of time is via an increase in the supply of money. Furthermore, under the current monetary system it is the central bank that ultimately controls how much new money is created. That is, the central bank causes inflation.

Russian bear could punch our lights out.. With the clocks now back and the cold weather drawing in, our leaders' minds are turning to the possibility of an energy shortage this winter… Gazprom, the Kremlin-controlled gas monolith, now produces around half the gas used by the EU.. Nuclear Reactor Shut Down in Ukraine for Emergency Repairs

Depleted Uranium Haunts Kosovo and Iraq.. A confidential preliminary UN report leaked in May 1999, as the bombing continued, did not mince words: "This type of ammunition is nuclear waste, and its use is very dangerous and harmful," it said. After NATO released its figures, the UN recommended that "measures should be taken to prevent access." For Kosovars, like Iraqis, such warnings may be too late.

Africa 'will be worst hit by climate change'.. Africa is particularly at risk because of its reliance on food from such a large amount of arid land - more than half of the continent's cultivable land is arid or semi-arid. Some 70 per cent of people in Africa and nearly 90 per cent of the poor work in agriculture. When rains fail, or are unpredictable, they are forced to rely on emergency food aid.

"Droplet splatter dispersion" exceeded.. The Mogambo Guru..the banks are so massively over-leveraged that they have a measly $40 billion lousy bucks as reserves against $5.5 trillion in savings.. And with a gigantic $6 trillion dollars in the loans and leases portfolio of the banks, these "assets" only have to decline by a trifling 1% in price to wipe out their entire reserves!.. Thus, the ugly truism, 'All financial crises originate in the banks!'"..The only other 100% sure-fire thing in economics is the probability that an economic system based on the over-creation of fiat currency and/or insane levels of fractional-reserve banking credit will implode,.. Then "it" happens! Without warning, some errant combination of unseen forces, some remarkable coincidence of unpredictable vectors, occurs.. the fabled chaotic and destructive "fat tail" of probability distributions

The Dollar's Full-System Meltdown.. Mike Whitney .. The U.S. Dollar is kaput. Confidence in the currency is eroding by the day…Capital has no loyalties. It follows the markets…As long as oil is denominated in dollars, the central banks will be forced to stockpile American scrip regardless of its value…America cannot maintain its superpower status unless it continues to control the global economic system. That means the linkage between the dollar and oil must be preserved.

Borrowers will take the strain if bank rates soar.. If the Bank of England votes for a rate rise next month, almost a 10th of the average person's income will be swallowed up paying the interest on their debts.. 'The labour market's getting tougher, and people are seeing a substantial squeeze on their incomes; and they're looking to save more.'

Cleaners demand living wage from Goldman.. Goldman, Wall Street's leading investment bank, is notorious for paying its senior bankers generously…At the other end of the Goldman Sachs food-chain, more than 100 cleaners, whose jobs are outsourced to contractor Mitie, are paid just £6.20 per hour for a night-shift.

Indian utopia: Double-digit growth.. India has come a long way. For years the economy bumped along with about 4% annual growth in gross domestic product (GDP). Then it began to perk up, climbing to 6% and then to an average of 8% over the past three years.. If economic reform continues to benefit only a handful of Indians while the majority experience no change in their lot, 10% GDP growth rate will remain only a pipe dream.

US energy independence a 'dream': Saudi oil executive.. Al-Falih said, but warned that in the global economy "the costs of pursuing the path of energy self-sufficiency would be high."..renewable energies would only hit six percent of the world's total energy supply by 2030, he said…With no substitute available for jet fuel, gasoline and diesel, oil would "remain the dominant fuel for the forseeable future,"

Is China the new colonial power in Africa?..As China aggressively seeks new markets for its exports and new raw materials to feed its explosive economic growth, its involvement in Africa is increasingly the subject of heated international debate

Security: Power To The People.. The terrorists have developed the ability to fight nation-states strategically--without weapons of mass destruction. This new method is called "systems disruption," a simple way of attacking the critical networks (electricity, oil, gas, water, communications, and transportation) that underpin modern life. Such disruptions are designed to erode the target state’s legitimacy.. Security will become a function of where you live and whom you work for, much as health care is allocated already. Wealthy individuals and multinational corporations will be the first to bail out of our collective system.. Members of the middle class will follow, taking matters into their own hands by forming suburban collectives to share the costs of security--as they do now with education--and shore up delivery of critical services…Perhaps the most important global shift will be the rise of grassroots action and cross-connected communities. Like the Internet, these new networks will develop slowly at first.

Afghanistan war is 'cuckoo', says Blair's favourite general.. In a unprecedented show of scepticism towards Blair, he said the Prime Minister's promise to give the army 'anything it wants' was unrealistic…'We have to stick with Iraq not least because in international terms the price of failure is far greater than in Afghanistan'. Iraq could cause problems in the region for years, he said, with implications for Jordan and Turkey, as well as for Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.

Bush's Poppy Wars in Afghanistan…poppy cultivation spread to every province, and overall production has increased exponentially ever since -- this year by 60%. Afghan farmers officially proposed to British anti-narcotics officials that they be licensed to grow poppy and produce opium for state-owned refineries to be built with foreign aid donations. The refineries, in turn, would produce medicinal morphine and codeine for worldwide legal sale, thereby filling a global need for inexpensive, natural pain killers…The farmers got nowhere with this proposal.. It's not just that Big Pharma would resent the competition. Think about the Republican base for which "legal drug" is an oxymoron.

Bush’s Brave New World of Torture.. After President George W. Bush signed the controversial Military Commissions Act last week, the Justice Department wasted no time in using its new power to deny due process to the detainees swept up in the “war on terror.” authorizes the president to detain, without charges, anyone whom he deems an unlawful enemy combatant. This includes U.S. citizens. It eliminates habeas corpus review for aliens. It also makes providing “material support” to terrorists punishable by military commission. And the military commissions' procedures allow for coerced testimony, the use of “sanitized classified information” -- where the source is not disclosed -- and trial for offenses not historically subject to trial by military commissions. (Terrorism is not historically a military offense; it's a crime.) Finally, by amending the War Crimes Act, it allows the president to authorize interrogation techniques that may nonetheless violate the Geneva Conventions and provides future and retroactive “defenses” for those who engage in or authorize those acts.

Electronic Voting Gets Its Own Satire Site.. Britons 'could be microchipped like dogs in a decade'.. The RFID chips - which can be detected and read by radio waves - are already used in new UK passports and are also used the Oyster card system to access the London Transport network…There are now 4.2 million CCTV cameras in Britain and the average Briton is caught on camera an astonishing 300 times every day…"There is a rather scary underlying feeling that people may worry that these microchips are less about being a human being than becoming a barcoded product."

Nuclear plan a drain on water supply..The plant produces up to 1400 megawatts of electricity a year and uses about 19,500 megalitres of water. A nuclear power station producing the same output would need about 25,000 megalitres of water. "That is the equivalent of at least an additional 5000 Olympic-sized swimming pools a year," Mr Beattie said. "It is water that we simply cannot afford when drought and climate change are drying up water supplies."

Debris of war compounds ecological nightmare in Lebanon.. One month of Israeli bombardment during the July-August war created millions of tonnes of rubble in Lebanon, adding to the ecological nightmare of a country that has suffered a succession of conflicts.

Virginity For Sale.. Since President Bush took office, almost $1 billion in federal funds has been committed to abstinence-only education…At Purity Balls, fathers read this pledge: "I choose before God to cover my daughter as her authority and protection in the area of purity…as the high priest in my home.".. Virginity pledgers are much less likely than non-pledgers to use contraception the first time they have sex, are equally likely to contract stds, and are twice as likely to engage in anal sex.

Imbalances pose real risk to global system: Summers.. former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said on Thursday…"These imbalances have had people crying 'Wolf' for several years. They stand as a real risk," .. The concern is that foreign countries who finance the massive U.S. current account deficit..could at some point refrain from amassing more U.S. assets, spurring a dollar fall and soaring U.S. long-term interest rates.. Summers also urged world leaders to address the challenges posed by increasing global economic integration,.

World oil production may have peaked-executive.. said U.S. government data showed that the world oil supply has declined through the first half of this year…"The industry itself does know more about the way things are behaving, wells are producing and it may be that if we had access to that data, we might refine some of our estimates."

World economy 'faces ruin' from climate change.. The report, written by the former World Bank chief economist Sir Nicholas Stern and commissioned by the British Treasury.. If you look at sea level rises alone, and the impact that will have on global economies where cities are becoming inundated by flooding … this will cause the displacement of hundreds of millions of people," he said…It is a problem for those who deal with economics and development, conflict prevention, agriculture, finance, housing, transport, innovation, trade and health.".. Global warming could cost 20 percent of GDP, British cabinet told.. that it would cost the world one percent of its GDP to fight off global warming.Doing nothing, however, would cost between five and 20 times that amount.

Housing slump hits US economy growth.. Democrats expressed concern the economy was slowing at a time when workers were already struggling to keep up with inflation.

Australian Drought May Cut GDP Growth, Force Up Rates (Update4).. interest rates may rise next month to fight inflation as food prices ..Drought in the world's third-biggest wheat exporter has helped push global wheat prices to a 10-year high, and in Australia will increase the cost of bread, milk, fruit and meat. This will stoke inflation even after the central bank raised its benchmark rate twice this year. All 25 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News expect another increase next month.

Rep. Blunt Blames Media For Sputtering Economy.. said “a bigger story is that so much of the media - and I don’t put Fox News in this category - has constantly talked down this economy.”

Warships deploy around S. Arabia oil facilities.. a threat from al-Qaida last month to target gulf oil terminals had resulted in stepped-up security and vigilance at Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura terminal, as well as a refinery in Bahrain.

Bush Moves Toward Martial Law.. President Bush has signed into law a provision which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law.. allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder.".. The law also facilitates militarized police round-ups and detention of protesters, so called "illegal aliens," "potential terrorists" and other "undesirables" for detention in facilities already contracted for and under construction by Halliburton.

US warned of ballot box chaos as elections near.. "Machine failures, database delays and foul-ups, inconsistent procedures, new rules and new equipment have some predicting chaos at the polls at worst, and widespread polling place snafus at best,".. However, vote monitoring organisations and computer scientists have grown increasingly wary about the new voting machines, especially those that do not leave a paper trail in case it is needed for future verification…In that same election year, a software error in Texas polling stations led to a vote overcount, with 100,000 more votes registered than had been cast.

Meet the man who stands between private lives and the right to know.. we meet Richard Thomas. The defender of those twin pillars of British values — our right to privacy, and government by an open democracy —..“We’re waking up in a surveillance society,” he said. “And when you start to see how many well-intentioned, apparently beneficial schemes are in place to monitor people’s activities and movements, I think that does raise concerns…“It’s not just unwarranted intrusions into privacy, it’s also the dangers of inaccurate information, of mistakes being made, of information being held too long,”.. “A number of banks have been very careless with people’s personal information,”.. the three points I wanted to make, what drives me. One is empowering citizens; two, demystifying the law; and three, make sure that rights are effective.”

why global warming could leave Britain feeling the cold.. Scientists have uncovered more evidence for a dramatic weakening in the vast ocean current that gives Britain its relatively balmy climate by dragging warm water northwards from the tropics…Most alarmingly.. a part of the current.., came to a temporary halt during November 2004.. If the current remained that weak, he predicted, it would lead to a 1C drop in the UK in the next decade. A complete shutdown would lead to a 4C-6C cooling over 20 years.

The Real Gold/Silver Ratio.. TED BUTLER.. There’s $3 trillion in gold and only $12 billion in silver. If you have cash, buy silver…

How chow do pan ho wan?.. The Mogambo Guru.. Roughly 70% of the Chinese reserves are believed to be in U.S. dollar assets, 20% in euros and 10% in other currencies.. Asked by reporters last month about the size of the reserves, central-bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said: 'We think we've got enough.'"..US President's Working Group on Financial Markets was originally set up as a fallback, ad-hoc, if-then defense to deal with possible economic emergencies, but now they are routinely meeting every six weeks!!.. has even ordered Jim Wilkinson, his chief of staff, to "oversee the creation of a Treasury command center to track markets world-wide and serve as an operations base in a crisis"! World-wide! The American government is moving to take control of the world-wide economy as the result of an anticipated crisis? Yikes!.. "You can't blame these ECB banks! When a nation [USA] drops habeas corpus and the Geneva Convention, a little matter like theft of other nation's stored gold is not a stretch.".. As Representative Ron Paul of Texas noted, "Once we accept that the federal government needs $2.7 trillion from us-- and more each year-- the only question left is from whom it will be collected."

A SWAP STORY: BORROWED FROM THE BANK OF ENGLAND.. Rob Kirby... gold exports rose 55.0% in August from the previous month, and was up 83.0% from the previous year, the Commerce Department reported Thursday…“With a deficit in gold supply world wide, it is highly unlikely that this is US owned gold leaving the country. You should be aware that when a foreign central bank repatriates its gold from storage at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, it shows up as a export credit in the trade data of the US. This is not American gold!.. regarding different types of gold swaps that the Bank of England presumably utilizes,.. Under a gold quality swap, gold of a particular quality [fineness] is swapped with a market counterparty for a specified period with gold of different fineness…Fundamentally, a Gold Quality Swap would allow the holder of “less than fine” bullion to effectively sell or transact it publicly and remain anonymous. GOLD COIN melt just happens to ALL be 22 carat. Now ask yourself who would possibly care about such a thing? After all, Central Banks have declared gold a Barbarous Relic, sell it all the time – and usually have news conferences to pre announce up coming sales to boast about them, don’t they? So why would a sale of “less than pure” gold need to be kept a secret? The “best fit” / counter party is; the US TREASURY OR THE FED [see argument below] was the other side of these trades. In fact, they are the most plausible counterparty for such a transaction – arising from the great confiscation of gold coin in the U.S. in 1933…No wonder Ft Knox has not been credibly audited since the Eisenhower Administration.

ENDLESS CREDIT-CREATION.. Puru Saxena.. In summary, money-supply growth has contracted somewhat due to rising short-term interest-rates, but this has been largely offset by a surge in bank credit, thereby making the monetary tightening ineffective. It is critical to understand that monetary inflation is now a global phenomenon and over the long-term, the purchasing power of your savings will be confiscated regardless of the “paper” currency you select. Take a look at the latest money-supply growth-rates around the world

BoE'S Bean says oil price fall is 'not such good news as first appears'.. the beneficial effect on inflation from the recent fall in oil prices is expected to be "partly offset by faster inflation in the non-energy components of consumer price inflation as businesses seek to rebuild their profit margins and workers make up for the squeeze on the purchasing power of their wages". Bean, who is one of the nine rate-setters on the Monetary Policy Committee.. Bean said a sizeable downward adjustment in the value of the dollar may be necessary soon to solve the US's imbalances and indicated that it is possible that it could be done in an orderly manner in the way it occurred in the late 1980s. However, he stressed that the crucial thing for the US is to save more and consume less.

America will face a critical shortage of electricity within a decade.. The grid organization--known commonly as NERC--forecast US demand for power will increase 20 percent from 2006 through 2015. That’s total demand growth of 141 gigawatts of capacity, as opposed to just 67 gigawatts of new projects supposedly in the works. The total is a shortfall of 160 large power plants; one gigawatt can power 500,000 to a million homes…zie ook Richard Duncan.. The Olduvai Cliff Event: ca. 2007

HOW DOES THE US DOLLAR DEFY THE LAW OF GRAVITY?..Gary Dorsch.. Nearly every central bank is engaging in some sort of manipulation of its currency, from outright intervention in the marketplace, such as in Brazil and China, to pumping up the money supply to inflate local stock markets, such as in Australia, China, England, the Euro zone, and India. Other central banks engage in “verbal jawboning” to keep traders in check... French Finance Minister Thierry Breton, said the French economy could tolerate the Euro’s rally to $1.30, but, "We must be very attentive to exchange rates. We will do everything so that this difference between the Euro and US dollar doesn’t keep growing.” ..“Tricky” Trichet makes US dollar look less Ugly.. The Euro M3 money supply measure jumped 0.4% to an annualized growth rate of 8.2%, far above the central bank’s long discarded 4.50% target rate…The ECB can’t control the M3 money supply, when borrowing is expanding at such a rapid clip, and negative interest rates in Europe, enable the ECB to covertly make the US dollar look less ugly in the foreign exchange market…“The world economy is doing miraculously well,” said former Fed chief Paul Volcker on October 17th, because “there are some big imbalances underneath all of this, especially the flow of capital into the US. If the music stopped or slowed down a bit in terms of the foreign money coming into the US, you’ve got a potential problem for the US dollar and inflation,” Volcker warned.

MASSIVE GEO POLITICAL STRIFE TO BUTTRESS GOLD?.. Christopher Laird.. US/Iran.. Israel has not acted alone – yet.. Iran just directly threatened the EU.. The Middle East has roughly 2/3 of the world’s known oil reserves. Do the math. This whole situation, Iraq, Iran, Russia, China, excepting Muslim extremism possibly, is about the vital energy resources the world needs in the next 30 years.. After Iran’s direct threats to the EU, and the fact that Iran is well known to support Muslim insurrection activity in the EU and Iraq, the EU will look the other way if the US acts unilaterally to annihilate Iran, actually will be happy about it…

U.S. Forges New Ties With Iran's Gulf Neighbors.. On October 29, American, Kuwaiti, and Bahraini ships will conduct a naval exercise under the Proliferation Security Initiative.. The security cooperation with Gulf allies against Iran represents a backup plan should U.N. diplomacy fail.

Dollar could slide if Congress goes to Democrats.. Some economists fear that if the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates next year amid slower U.S. growth, investors could shy away from U.S. dollars, making it harder for the country to finance its trade deficit…But Cheah said the sheer volume of pressing issues facing the White House these days, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Iran and North Korea, mean two years of bickering and uncertainty would unnerve markets. "We have a lot of such problems, and investors are concerned about them," he said.

Why markets need to take Peak Oil seriously.. No more increasing capacity = peak oil…If there is no longer any hope of increased wealth in the world, then all those tradable paper markers become losers. Their value unwinds and imagined piles of wealth evaporate into thin air.

Khamenei Brandishes a Kalashnikov at US and Israel.. Tehran and Damascus are gearing up for a pre-emptive attack on Israel to ward off a US strike on Iran’s nuclear sites – whether from Lebanon, or Golan, using Hamas to launch an offensive from Gaza, or a combination thereof. The Bush administration would then have to divide its attention and military might among three warfronts simultaneously…Iran and Islamic sources note that the Kalashnikov in the supreme ruler’s hand spoke louder than his bellicose rhetoric.

Beware Empires in Decline.. The common wisdom circulating in Washington these days is that the United States is too bogged down in Iraq to consider risky military action against Iran or—God forbid—North Korea…Even harder is overcoming the long-inbred assumption that one's vassals are inferior—mentally, morally, and otherwise…The impulse to strike back must be formidable. Soon, I fear, it will prove irresistible.

Economics: The Sound of Aunt Edna’s Knitting.. money actually played a fairly small role in the overall economic picture. Until well after 1700.. Cash served as a means of exchange for things produced so far away that transport costs and spoilage made barter unworkable…Since fossil fuel depletion is a gradual process, though, the changeover won’t happen all at once. This is a good thing, since the vast majority of people in the industrial world today lack the skills and tools to function in a local economy…Farming is the classic example. If you grow food crops with your own labor, you don’t actually need the money economy.. The twilight of industrial society, like the fall of other civilizations before it, will doubtless be accompanied by plenty of tumult and shouting.. the signal behind all that noise – will be a much fainter sound: the soft clatter of Aunt Edna’s knitting needles, beginning to knit the fabric of a new and more sustainable world.

Security Council Backs Sanctions on North Korea.. Pak Gil Yon, the ambassador of North Korea, told the Council that his government “totally rejected” the resolution, and he accused the panel’s members of “gangsterlike” behavior and double standards. Solving the Korean Stalemate, One Step at a Time.. Jimmy Carter.. But beginning in 2002, the United States branded North Korea as part of an axis of evil, threatened military action, ended the shipments of fuel oil and the construction of nuclear power plants and refused to consider further bilateral talks…The current military situation is similar but worse than it was a decade ago: we can still destroy North Korea's army, but if we do it is likely to result in many more than a million South Korean and American casualties…Washington's pledge of no direct talks could be finessed through secret discussions with a trusted emissary like former Secretary of State Jim Baker, who earlier this week said, "It's not appeasement to talk to your enemies."

Army: Troops to Stay in Iraq Until 2010.. Currently there are 141,000 troops in Iraq, including 120,000 Army soldiers…the Army will need $138.8 billion in 2008, nearly $40 billion more than its planned expenditures for the 2007 budget year,

As much as 92% of the world's illegal heroin now comes from Afghanistan.. Rumsfeld has met personally with Afghan military commanders known to be among “the godfathers of drug trafficking” and made it clear that their illegal enterprise would be tolerated as long as they remained allied with the United States…(opm. Via de illegale drugshandel kan de USA rond de 300-500 miljard US$ per jaar dumpen en zodoende een groot deel van het budgettekort dekken, tja de USA heeft toch rond de 1,5-2 miljard US$ per dag nodig van de wereld)
